August 16, 2017
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey stopped by The Rocket City for her "Listen, Learn, Help and Lead tour." She made three stops while here, and hosted a round table with local government and business leaders. Governor Ivey said the purpose of her tour is to learn the needs of the community. "We want to know what real people are thinking about, challenges they are facing, and opportunities they are having. We need to get out with the people," she said. Ivey's first stop was at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology where she got a tour of the facility.
Then she made her way to Gate 9 at Redstone Arsenal for a ribbon cutting. While there she presented a check for $1.3 million to help complete a project to move the gate. "I was proud I could provide a check for $1.3 million to help finish that project," she said. The Senior Commander on the installation said the entrance to the arsenal is the face to the community. He said it would be the first impression of the arsenal for the dedicated work force and distinguished visitors hosted from around the nation and the world.
Governor Ivey's last stop before a round table with community leaders was at Science and Engineering Services or SES. She toured the facility and learned about work they are doing for Alabama and the rest of the United States.
